Mental health problems affect more than one in ten women during pregnancy and the first year after childbirth and can have a devastating impact. In extreme circumstances, perinatal mental health problems can be life threatening. Suicide is one of the leading causes of maternal death in the UK. Early detection and timely multiagency intervention can however significantly reduce or prevent the lasting effects of perinatal mental health problems on the mother, child and wider family. Multiagency working is key to providing coordinated care during the perinatal period.
This training programme has been developed to better equip Clinicians from all the organisations who are involved in the care of women during the perinatal period with the skills and knowledge to recognise, detect and treat perinatal mental health problems.
The 2016/17 training programme has two stages, according to your role and responsibilities it may be appropriate for you to attend one or both Courses.
Stage 1 : Perinatal Mental Health – Multi-agency 1 day Awareness Training
Stage 2 : 2 day Multi-Agency Perinatal Mental Health Training - ‘Saving Mothers Lives and Changing Outcomes’
