Prescribing Physical Activity for the Management and Prevention of Disease

Public Health England (PHE) is offering this free CPD training event for Camden healthcare professionals, supported by Camden Council's Active Living team.

The session, led by Joshua Cane, PHE physical activity clinical champion and senior psychological therapist/clinical coordinator, will offer:

  • a comprehensive review of the current evidence base for physical activity as a way to manage and prevent physical and mental health conditions, including a discussion on tackling language barriers
  • up to date information on the UK chief medical officers’ physical activity guidelines for adults, children, pregnant women and people with disabilities
  • the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver effective brief advice and prescribe physical activity to patients.

Benefits of the session include:

  • access to evidence-based resources proven to increase knowledge and confidence and to support clinical practice in line with guidance (e.g. NICE)
  • improved management and care of patients with 30+ long-term conditions (e.g. CVD, type 2 diabetes, depression, MSK issues, some cancers)
  • help reducing service demand and costs (i.e. the ~£0.9bn annual cost to the NHS associated with insufficient physical activity)
  • receiving information and resources to help you signpost towards local physical activity opportunities in Camden.

All participants can use this for CPD and will receive certification.
