The Chair will be appointed from the Board membership at the first Board meeting in early July. Alpesh Patel, chair of the GPPA Reference Group, will Chair the first meeting.

The GPPA has been set-up in response to national changes, which from July will see Integrated Care Systems (ICS) formally supported by legislation. One way that general practice and the wider primary care community will have a voice in the NCL ICS will be via the GPPA.

The ambition is for the GPPA to help general practice to have a unified voice and to provide the best possible services for communities. It will also support general practice through transitional periods and changes, such the changes expected this year. Over the coming weeks, the Board will set out the objectives, roles and functions of the GPPA for its first year.

Paul Sinden, interim managing director, commented,

“The formation of the General Practice Providers Alliance’s first Board is a real milestone for primary care engagement in the North Central London Integrated Care System: providing a unified provider voice, with strong leadership from general practice.

The Board has three representatives from each of North Central London’s five borough, to ensure equity of voice across the ICS. Together, we will provide the primary care perspective in the new ICS and enable NCL-wide primary care initiatives.

I would like to thank colleagues across North Central London who formed the General Practice Provider Alliance Reference Group. Each member of the Reference Group contributed considerable time, energy and expertise to get the General Practice Providers Alliance off the ground. I would also like to thank the CCG for its support in establishing the General Practice Providers Alliance and to London-Wide LMC for running the Board election process.”
