Reports have been received of staff receiving threatening phone calls and emails, purporting to be from an HMRC officer. The fraudsters’ have been quite intimidating and threatening arrest or conviction for non-compliance. Their goal is to panic you into giving your personal data in order to use it or sell it to other fraudsters.
It is imperative to remember that HMRC will never contact you in a threatening manner and genuine communication from them will almost always be via letter.
