Reminder: The Gynaecology Collaborative
The Gynaecology Collaborative is the single point of access for ALL gynaecology referrals for Islington and Haringey practices. The only exceptions are 2WW, early pregnancy, established gynaecology oncology and fertility.
Our acute providers are currently under a lot of pressure and have stopped routine work. The Gynaecology Collaborative continues to accept referrals. All referrals are clinically triaged within 48 hours and our waiting times for clinical contact is still at six weeks.
This service is a collaboration between Islington GP Federation, North Middlesex University Hospital, Whittington Hospital and University College Hospital. We have consultants from all three hospitals supporting our service. We have also created pathways for patients to be referred in to hospital for procedures. We also have access to ultrasound.
We have received some excellent feedback. One GP said:
"I love this service and wish all referrals were like this. I know it's early days but I have referred several people and some were seen a couple of days later and others referred on to secondary care with v prompt feedback to me and the patient. It's much better than the previous Harringay/Islington comm gynae as no bounce backs. Thank you."
"Our surgery has been impressed with the new Gynaecology Collaborative service. I have been given really good feedback about the service from my clinical colleagues ranging from our most experienced GP in gynaecology to our trainee GPs. The referral form is very user friendly and quick to complete. As a GP who has less experience in gynaecology than my colleagues, I have been most impressed by the clinical pathways that are linked to on the referral forms. These have both changed and improved my practice. For example, the initiating HRT pathways really simplifies a potentially daunting and complex topic."
Access to the service is via eRS: please look for 'the Gynaecology Collaborative'. Our referral form has been revamped and is available in EMIS. It also has links for up-to-date clinical pathways, please do use them. We have noticed that the Gynaecology Collaborative appears quite low on the standard list in eRS. We therefore recommend that practices select the Primary Care option in eRS where it appears at the top of the list.
Attached are some brief FAQs.
Please remember our hospitals are under a lot of strain. You can help them by referring into the Gynaecology Collaborative. In order to support our acute providers, we are working with them to review non-urgent referrals that have been sent in to them. Given the situation we find ourselves in, we need to work together to support each other.
