Evidence Based Interventions and Clinical Standards Policy (formerly POLCE)


The current NCL POLCE Policy (Version 7.1) was updated and published on 1 April 2019. All clinicians across Barnet and NCL are now required to follow these new clinical criteria. This new version aligns NCL POLCE policy with work that has been happening both nationally and at London- wide level over the past year. The new version includes 20 policy updates – 14 are existing policies which have been updated to align with national and London-wide policies, and 6 are new policies – listed below for quick reference:

New PoLCE policies (6)

  • Knee arthroplasty (replacement)
  • Hip arthroplasty (replacement)
  • Cataract surgery (replacing a clouded eye lens with an artificial lens)
  • Grommets
  • Haemorrhoid Surgery
  • Shoulder decompression

  • Intervention for snoring (not OSA)
  • Dilatation & curettage for heavy menstrual bleeding
  • Knee arthroscopy with osteoarthritis
  • Injection for non-specific low back pain without sciatica
  • Breast Reduction

  • Hysterectomy for heavy bleeding
