Adult Weight Management

This is a 12-week NICE compliant Tier 2 adult weight management service consisting of group sessions taking place once a week in community settings consisting of 45 minutes of nutrition topic led by a nutritionist and 45 minutes of physical activity led by an exercise instructor. 

Eligibility criteria


  • Aged 18+. (no upper age limit, however appropriate support should be given to older adults participating in services considering the risk of muscle mass loss and potential inaccuracy of BMI in older adults)
  • Resident, or registered with a GP practice, in England
  • BMI ≥ 25kg/m² (adjusted to 23kg/m² in people of Black African, African-Caribbean and Asian origin)
  • Due to the targeted nature of our programme, only residents who are resident in the following wards, where levels of deprivation and excess weight are high, will be eligible for inclusion: Lower Edmonton, Edmonton Green, Jubilee, Haselbury, Ponders End, Enfield Highway, Southbury, Turkey Street, Enfield Lock.


An individual who meets any one of the following exclusion criteria will not be eligible to access adult tier 2 behavioural weight management service. Specialist adult weight management services are available for people living with co-morbidities elsewhere in the borough. Exclusion criteria: 

  • An individual who does not meet the eligibility criteria as defined above 
  • Severe/moderate frailty as recorded on a frailty register 
  • Is pregnant 
  • Has a diagnosed eating disorder 
  • Has a significant unmanaged co-morbidity
  • Has had bariatric surgery in the last two years.

1 For example chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, unmanaged meaning not on medication and/or not subject to regular clinical review or have not completed a current active management programme such as diabetes management or cardiac rehabilitation.
