Barnardo’s Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) is a new service in the London Borough of Islington, delivered by a qualified team of talking and creative therapists based in the community in Islington. It provides short-term individual counselling and therapy to the children and young people of Islington experiencing difficulties with their social, emotional and mental health, including:

  • bullying, peer pressure
  • depression, anxiety, low confidence
  • mild self-harm
  • anger management 
  • exam pressure
  • eating issues
  • bereavement.

Eligibility criteria


Children and young people between 8-18 years old, or upto 25 with an EHCP or CLA, who are either:

  • registered with a GP in Islington
  • at school in Islington
  • living in Islington


Children and young people who suffer from:

  • moderate to severe self-harm
  • trauma
  • eating disorders
  • severe attachment difficulties
  • severe substance misuse.
