Bladder and Bowel Care Service

The Bladder and Bowel Care Service is a nurse-led team, providing assessment, treatment and support to adults with bowel and/or bladder problems.

Conditions that can be treated by this service include:

  • overactive bladder
  • functional, stress and urge incontinence
  • faecal incontinence
  • neurological bladder and bowel incontinence
  • nocturia
  • nocturnal enuresis
  • constipation.

Training programmes can be provided for district nurses, students, health visitors and school nurse teams, primary care teams, schools, care homes and voluntary agencies.

Joint referral protocols and pathways to be agreed between primary care and acute professionals

People experiencing continence problems are assessed at one of three Continence Clinics held at the following health centres:

  • Bounds Green
  • Hornsey Central
  • Lordship Lane.

People that are receiving continence products are reviewed annually in one of three Annual Re-assessment Clinics held at the above locations.

House-bound people have their initial continence assessment undertaken by the District Nurses and then are annually assessed at home by member of the service.

  • registered with a Haringey GP


  • children
