Direct access vascular studies service for ambulatory patients with suspected acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

If patient is found to have an acute DVT they will be sent to A&E or Haematology for same day follow-up.

Results are emailed to the practice by the secure email address supplied on the request form. Should the patient not be found to have acute DVT, the GP retains responsilibity for follow-up. 


Eligibility criteria

Inclusions

  • see inclusion criteria on request form

Exclusions

  • patients with signs or symptoms of COVID-19 and currently in self-isolation whether through test positivity, symptoms or contact with others. Patients should be screened for these prior to referral.
  • not registered with a GP, or not ambulatory – the service cannot accommodate them via the direct access referral route. Consider sending ineligible patients to local ED.

After completing the request form, contact the department directly on 020 7830 2862 to arrange a same day appointment for the patient.
