All patients attending this clinic must be registered with a GP. All patients will require a referral letter to attend the urgent referral clinic from their GP General practitioners and emergency departments are requested to contact the urgent referral clinic or the SHO on call.

Clinic times

Monday to Thursday

  • Check in times: 9.30-11am and 2-4pm

Friday

  • Check in times: 9.30-11am (no afternoon clinic)

Eligibility criteria

Inclusions

The triage system filters all patients into urgent and non-urgent cases. The clinic has classified urgent cases as:

  • Haemorrhage
    • Nasal: all non-arrested epistaxis episodes
    • Aural: due to trauma, surgery or infection
    • Throat: due to trauma or surgery
  • Acute infections
    • All acute infections pertaining to ear, nose and throat, for example, otitis externa, acute aural discharge, acute tonsillitis, peri-tonsillar abscess and acute nasal discharge.
  • Acute pain - pertaining to all ENT regions
  • Airway obstruction
  • Acute vertigo
  • Foreign bodies suspected or proved
