Specialist unit for women who need emergency care for gynaecological problems and problems in early pregnancy provided at RFH and Barnet Hospital. Note: The weekend the service is only available at the RFH on Saturday and only available at Barnet Hospital on Sunday.

No walk-in. GP referrals must register in the A&E department before attending.

Urgent GP referrals seen on same day. Non-urgent referrals seen on same or next day.

Referrals from a GP, A&E unit or urgent care centre, or from other healthcare providers in public/private sectors.

Barnet Hospital

The unit is open Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm. 

For further advice about emergency gynaecology at Barnet Hospital, call 020 8216 5233. Referrals are either from GP or the emergency department.

Royal Free Hospital

The unit is open Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 8pm with scanning facilities from 9am to 5pm.

Specialist nurses also provide advice by telephone on  020 7472 6374 during opening hours. You can also call 020 7794 0500 ext 38205 or 31468.

Self-referral

Patient can self-refer if they've had:

  • three previous, recurrent miscarriages
  • a previous ectopic pregnancy
  • a previous molar pregnancy

Self-refer to RFH by contacting unit prior to attendance. 

Opening hours: Mon-Fri 7:30am-8pm with scanning facilities from 9am to 5pm.
